Heres some reviews it got for those of you who want to know what you’re getting themselves into!!!

“The type of slow droning doom that DeNovissimis play is definitely an acquired taste, and it definitely takes a certain degree of patience and/or a certain mindset to appreciate. It is severely doubtful that those already with an aversion to the likes of Unearlthy Trance, Corrupted, Burning Witch and their ilk will have time for this single 28 minute track of pure droning cold filthy rot. The first few minutes of this recording consist of a wall of feedback before building up to a slow pounding drone which could be difficultly described as being completely minimal in a Kahante kind of way, but which certainly doesn’t meander like some similar bands do. The slow paced plod is interspersed with more chaotic, up-tempo grindy parts, which definitely help the piece from slipping down the passage of Sunn O))) like monotony.
Imagine the cold, raw and filthy almost black sound of Unearlthy Trance’s excellent ‘Season of Séance, Science of Silence’ album with the chaotic, insalubrious[sic] feel of the first two Carcass albums. Other sections contain slight traces of that almost trance inducing Neurosis -like oceanic heaving noise, and still elsewhere one can imagine a stripped down early Esoteric without all the effects and melody. This is made especially apparent with the crossing of the lethargically slow with abrupt fast sections. Vocal duties are shared by two members, one being a grim hateful rasp and the other a low Bill Steer-esque grunt, and this certainly adds further dimension to the proceedings. There are no major gripes as such. Drums could do with a bit of extra kick, but everything is audible and the low end is held down by a wonderfully dense manky guitar sound. The disc also comes housed in some fantastic DIY handmade photocopied packaging with excellently grim monochrome hand drawn artwork. De Novissimis would definitely score high with those who appreciate things like Crust, Grind, Drone, Sludge and Funeral Doom, as well as more open minded and patient folk. Definitely another one of those out of the blue surprises.”

“Extreme doom fans, alert! De Novissimis is a Irish (at least, we’re pretty sure they’re Irish) five-piece who traffic in a totally grotesque, diseased brand of doom-grind that’s not too far removed from the same gutter that you would find outfits like Goatsblood, Bunkur, or Catacombs. This private press CD-R boasts a single, almost half-hour long track of grueling sludge that is centered around several key riffs, mostly delivered at a saurian trudge as the droning, downtuned guitars bang out a simple 4 chord dirge for minutes on end while the dueling vocalists trade off deep, bellowing death roars and screeching vomit squeals. It’s not completely stuck in magma mode, though….occasionally De Novissimis will suddenly explode into a flurry of extremely noisy and chaotic grindcore, or a quieter, post-rocky passage, before falling back into the black maw of their demonically glacial doom. This is mind-numbingly heavy shit that will send your skull to your knees repeatedly. Fans of the doomcrust stuff that’s been oozing out of Baltimore over the past couple of years (Wake Up On Fire, Moonshine, etc.) would lose their minds over this. Packaged in a simple, xeroxed brown sleeve.”
-Crucial Blast

“negative, crusty doom that reminds me of bands like corrupted, burning witch, swans and de mysteriis-era mayhem. Horribly slow riffs that suddenly switch to blast beat driven nekro as fuck black metal and return to total unrelenting trolls on acid filth. Nothing grows here, the aural equivalent of being repeatedly mouth fucked by Satan’s 12 inch cock.”
-a review that seems to appear alot! by Aonghus McEvoy

“This is unlikely to appeal to any regular readers of Frequency-Ireland, but for the benefit of variety, a mention now for De Novissimis, whose 2005 debut EP was one of a number of hardcore-metal releases sent on by Rimbaud Records for digestion (indigestion) recently. De Novissimis are undoubtedly one of Ireland’s heaviest bands at the moment. They sound like a slow lurching evil, with doom laden satanic themes growled out with menacing vocals over deathly slow stoner riffs, although every now and then the double bass kicks in, the pace of riffs is upped four fold, and in those moments they’re almost like a direct descendant of Morbid Angel. It’s all quite disturbing, like an ensemble of possessed incarnates.
Actually, to me they sound quite a bit like a stoned-up death metal band. I went through a short phase of listening to bands such as Morbid Angel and Obituary back in my mid-teens (quite embarrasing as it is looking back now), and it’s easy to relate back the similarities. Despite the comparisons however, they don’t seem to have much to do with the metal scene here in Ireland, apparently sitting more comfortably with hardcore-punks, and fitting in with the resurgence in doom and slow heavy stoner bands. They’ve been compared by those more familiar with the genre to the likes of Corrupted, Burning Witch and Boris. I listened through the EP just once, and am unlikely to again, it’s not a genre that interests me at all these days. Perhaps I should just now donate it to a local church group to see what they make of it, I’m sure they’d love something to get riled about.”
